Peru is advised by Unesco to protect the exceptional and universal value of Machu Picchu

A Unesco delegation is in Perú to help authorities in the conservation of the inca Citadel of Machu Picchu and prevent their entry into the list of world heritage in danger, reported the decentralized direction of culture of the Peruvian region of Cusco in a statement.

The advice of the Unesco delegation met in Cusco with representatives of the Government and Peruvian agencies, and plans to conduct a field visit to the sanctuary the day today Friday and tomorrow Saturday for verifying the progress made to the observations raised previously.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the national service of natural Areas protected by the State (Sernanp), the decentralized direction of tourism (Dircetur) and the municipality of Machu Picchu, among other agencies.

Technical reports on the harmonization of the legislative frameworks and the strengthening of the mechanisms of governance of Machu Picchu were presented in the working day.

Also reviewed the comprehensive strategy to encourage access West to the Citadel, from the town of Santa Teresa, and was carried out an assessment of the effectiveness of the management of Machu Picchu to detect obstacles and challenges in its conservation.
