Community tourism emerges as an economical alternative for rural communities, farmers, indigenous or Afro-descendants within a country, to generate supplementary economic activities daily income, defend and enhance local natural and cultural resources. In our country, the project will be developed in the areas of Pomata in the region Puno; Raqchi in Cusco; Aypate in the sierra of Piura and the Xauxa-Pumpu stretch in the regions of Junín and Pasco, respectively.

Rural populations that are located in the surrounding areas to the Inca Trail will benefit from development projects that will run the Ministry of culture, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the financial contribution of the Italian cooperation programme.

These entities will boost the project "Development of local capacities for the promotion of community-based cultural tourism integrating Qhapaq Ñan in Bolivia, Perú and Ecuador," which includes the three involved countries.

The objective of the project is to improve the living conditions of the rural populations of the countries involved, promoting community-based tourism and integrating them, through the valorisation of the common heritage of the Qhapaq Ñan as a strategy for economic development and poverty reduction
