All the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu covers an area of 32,592 hectares, which is protected by the Peruvian government for being intangible .

The sanctuary is framed by Veronica ( 5822 m ) and the Salkantay ( 6271 m) peaks, includes all the Inca trail from km 82 of the railway line , in addition to the large area comprising up to 9 areas of life , the tourist area only covers 1% of the whole sanctuary .

The sanctuary has at least 350 species of orchids, 423 species of birds, the most important are the cock of the rock , or the Andean condor torrent duck . The climate is varied , in the highlands is cold and dry , while in jungle switch to warm and humid . In the citadel of Machu Picchu temperature varies between 12 and 24 degrees.

Walking the Inca Trail we see natural abundance , on the heights of Yunca chimpa there unkas wet forest ( trees lower branches full of lichens) . In warmiwachusca can be found vizcachas and deer , spectacled bear . As we alder trees , white cedars , pisonayes , CETICOS , etc. . We can also find the Yanacocha lagoon and Chaquicocha Plain .
